I"M NOT DEAD... AND PUMPKINS!!

I have not updated this blog in forever. I have done a lot of stuff since my last update. I know. I'm the worst. I have been working hard and making new monsters and other really fun stuff so at least I have been productive. Moving on.

So it is that time again and I decided to do all new pumpkins for this Halloween/Fall season. They are set to release on October 18th @ 3pm in my store vanessaramirez.storenvy.com. They are already loaded up so you can peruse at your leisure.

I will have another update very soon as DesignerCon is around the corner again go to supahcute.com/the-stoop/ and you can see what I'm up to along with some friends.

Also if there is anything else in my store you have been eyeballing I will be clearing it out and whatever I don't take to DesignerCon will most likely be retired. Back to sculpting for this broad.

DEEP THOUGHTS WITH RAMIREZ

I have been trying to put together an artist statement for something and have been really thinking about why I do what I do. And it occurred to me that maybe it was time to share a bit. I tend to joke a lot so I will try to be somewhat serious but I make no promises. So here it goes.

I don’t want to teach you anything.

I don’t want to share my politics/thoughts/or religion with you.

I don’t want to change your mind about anything. Honestly.

All I want is for you to feel.

I want you to look at my work and smile. I want you to look at my sculptures and feel bad for them. I want you to laugh because they are doing something ridiculous. I want you to wonder why they are so angry, crabby, or just plain odd. I want you to feel something because when I look at my favorite pieces in my collection I feel SOMETHING.

This started as a stress relieving hobby and has become so much more. It is a passion now. I love making things. The moment I see that little face looking out at me from the clay is my favorite part of the process. And I hope to continue doing it but mostly I want to get better. I dont take myself too seriously but I am serious about making the best work I can and pushing myself to grow.

So for those of you that look at my work and like or comment I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. For those of you that own something I have made, thank you, thank you. It is hard to let go sometimes but I send each piece off with the hope that they sit in your lives and you look at them and smile.

SUPAHCUTE SCIENCE FAIR

This weekend is the Supachute Science Fair! I was a little apprehensive about doing this show but I have to say I am really glad I did it. Probably the most fun pieces I have done so far.

The show will be at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland (see below for address and time). She does have a show preview so be sure to sign up for that, and any inquiries regarding availability can be sent to hello@leannalinswonderland.com. I will be in attendance and look forward to seeing every ones work.

Leanna Lin's Wonderland
5024 Eagle Rock Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90041

OPENING EVENT: Saturday, March 8 with reception from 6-10pm. The show will run through April 27, 2014.

My contribution to the show was the study of a small family of monsters called The Dwellers. I found them in a small corner in my backyard. After spending some time with them I asked if I could study them for a month under controlled conditions and these were my findings.

“The Dwellers” Family of Monsters

SUBJECT #1: The Nervous One The Pooper
OBSERVATIONS: After a month of
observation I found him very anxious and had to
keep my eye on him because at the slightest
provocation he would poop.

SUBJECT #2: The Licker
OBSERVATIONS: Immediately, I found that he would
lick EVERYTHING. The rock, the grass, the glass, and
even my hand as I fed him.

SUBJECT #3: The Happy One
OBSERVATIONS: From day one and all month long he
never stopped smiling. And he always waved. It was
sweet at first but quickly became unnerving.

SUBJECT #4: The Crabby One
OBSERVATIONS: He ended up being the most
entertaining subjects. He would pace, have full arguments
with himself. And at one point he even got into a fist fight
with himself. He won many staring contests.

SUBJECT #5: The Weirdo The Hairy Guy
OBSERVATIONS: This guy was hairless when I found
him with the others. He also has horns but they seemed
to be a family unit so I made him part of the study as
well. By the time I checked on him the second day his
hair quickly began to grow and has taken on a life of its
own. He mostly watched the me interact with the others
growling occasionally.

VIVE LA LOLLIGAG!

Starting off the New Year with a custom show. I was asked to do a custom for the Vive La Lolligag show this weekend at Toy Art Gallery and thought I would take the opportunity to change it up a bit. As nervous as I was doing this custom I'm actually quite pleased with the outcome.

The opening reception for “Vive La Lolligag!” takes place on January 11 from 7-10pm. I will be attending and look forward to seeing everyones work. The show runs through February 1.

Also, next weekend is the Supahcute Kaiju Show!  I have three original monsters in the show and will be doing a post on those fellas this weekend. I will also be there so if you are curious what a Mexican Hermit looks like swing by.

Here are images of my custom Lolligag. I call her "The Lady and her Protector"
