SUPAH MASHUP ART PARTY

I was invited to participate in the Supah Mashup Art Party curated by Hana Kim of Supahcute Blog awesomeness. The show is built around collaboration between artists and I was fortunate enough to have Shing Yin Khor agree to collaborate on a two headed oddity with me.

The opening reception will take place at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland this Saturday, May 11 from 6-10 pm. Many artist will be in attendance including yours truly. I know I am really looking forward to seeing all the great work and hope to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones.

The exhibition will run through July 14, 2013. Pictures of the finished sculpture are below and the backstory of this funny little guy can be found on Hana's blog here.

IN PURSUIT OF SOMETHING ELSE

It has been a while since I have posted an update about life in general so I am going to take this lovely Sunday afternoon to do just that. Please bear with me going to try to keep it short.

So in addition to sculpting and drawing monsters you may have seen or heard me talk about classes and assignments via twitter or instagram. Well for the last year I have been taking classes at The Animation Academy with Charles Zembillas off and on. I happened upon this school around this time last year when I was really trying to decide what my next step was. I have loved animation since I was a kid and for a brief time entertained the idea of becoming an animator. I gave that up around the same time I stopped drawing again. a few years ago I took a few classes at the community college and it reignited my love of animation and drawing. So I have been learning the basics and have really been challenged with things I have never done before. It has been a great experience so far and my skills are slowly improving and I am loving every minute of it.

I don't know what will come of this but I will be sharing my progress more regularly as I go on, but for now here is a breakdown of quick instagram snaps of some of the work I have done in the last year specifically for my classes.

Character Design 1 - Went from exercises on basics to head and body turnarounds. Ended with action poses.

Background Design - Learned about perspective and drawing backgrounds.

Story Sketch - This one was tough. I had to draw scenes and try to convey story through my drawings.

Currently I am in Visual Development and I will start posting on that regularly. It has been hard work but worth every second.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013! EAT SHIT 2012

Another year gone and I first and foremost just wanted to say thank you to those of you that have supported me this year. Seeing pictures of my odd creations in your collections is an amazing feeling and I am so grateful. The people that follow me on various social media outlets make it fun and I am always grateful for the contact and time you take to look at what I'm doing. And of course you bloggers (Shout out to The Blot Says, Supacute, Jeremy Brautman you guys are the best!) that have really helped me peddle my wares and have posted about artists creations that I just have to buy. You help me to extend my horizons and it doesn't hurt you guys are seriously fantastic people that are an essential part of this community.

To the artists that have shared info, tips, and much needed encouragement, you guys are amazing. I am so astounded by your talent and more so how kind and awesome you are. You all keep raising that bar and that makes me want to just get better. So thank you and I hope to see more wonderful works coming from you all.

This year has personally been a not awesome one and I am glad to be moving forward and I whole heartedly embrace the coming year. I don't know what it will hold for me but I know change will be a big part of 2013. And for those of you I have had the pleasure to meet I look forward to our paths crossing again. All the best for the new year.

Hello 2013. Eat Shit 2012.

MONSTER ORNAMENTS

Happy Holidays everyone. This is most likely my last release of the year and I am going to try (really hard) to enjoy the holidays this year. That being said I decided to make some Monster Ornaments to end out the year. Each one is a hand crafted original made from Magic Sculpt and bad behavior. They will be available tomorrow, December 11th @ 6:30pm PST in my store for $40. They are approximately 3" tall by about a 1.5" wide (varies).

And as an extra thank you to everyone that has purchased something from me or even taken time to look at my work I am having sale that will last until Friday night. 20% off your entire purchase of $50 or more. Must use code "HOLIDAY20"!

Thanks again to those of you that have purchased from me this past year. I am so grateful that you would spend your hard earned money on my creations and I hope you have a great holiday. All the best!
